Overview
ByteLetters ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Chrome extension and related services.
Information We Collect
When you use ByteLetters, we collect the following information:
- Email address — Collected via Google Sign-In for account authentication
- Profile details — Your name and birth date, used to personalize the new tab experience
- User preferences — Your settings, newsletter subscriptions, and saved insights
- Activity — Which insights have been shown to you, so we avoid repeating content and can tailor what you see
Where Our Content Comes From
ByteLetters shows curated insights drawn from publicly available newsletter archives that our team selects. We do this centrally; you do not forward emails to us, and we do not read your inbox. Every user chooses which of these curated sources to follow from within the extension.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to provide and improve ByteLetters:
- Authenticate your account and enable sign-in
- Show you insights from the curated newsletters you follow
- Sync your subscriptions, saved insights, and preferences across devices
- Avoid showing you the same insight twice and personalize your feed
What We Don't Do
We respect your privacy and commit to the following:
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties
- We do not track your browsing activity outside the extension
- We do not read your email or require access to your inbox
- We do not use advertising or analytics trackers
- We do not use your data for AI model training
AI Processing
The curated newsletter content is processed using Anthropic Claude to extract bite-sized insights. This processing is done solely to provide the ByteLetters service and operates on the newsletter source material, not on your personal data. This content is not used to train the AI provider's models.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely:
- Data is stored on Supabase (PostgreSQL) with encryption at rest
- All connections use HTTPS encryption
- Authentication is handled via Google OAuth 2.0
- We follow industry-standard security practices
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, subscriptions, saved insights, and activity history are removed.
Your Rights & Data Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- You can view all your saved bytes in the extension
- You can delete individual bytes at any time
- You can delete your entire account and all associated data from the extension settings
To delete your account: Open ByteLetters → Settings (gear icon) → Delete Account
